About The Book

There has been a global explosion in volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). The pace and complexity of work has continued to increase in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), we are experiencing an ever-accelerating pace of change.

At the same time a global study published in 2023 by the Workforce Institute “Mental Health at Work”, found that 20% of workers say their job negatively impacts their mental health and 81% of employees worldwide would prioritize good mental health over a high-paying job. With 64% saying they would take a pay cut for a job that better supports their mental wellness.

If organizations are going to thrive in this environment, they need to ensure the psychological well-being of all their people at every level through robust systems of psychological health and safety and continuous improvement. These two systems are intertwined and support each other. We need to co-create these systems with an inside-out perspective focused on every individual, seeing people as people, not as payroll.

Why Care describes the why, what, and how of creating Psychological Well-Being integrated with a culture of Continuous Improvement.

Testimonials

"Why Care?  brings to the fore the key fact that Continuous Improvement cannot succeed without thriving individuals! It's not so much about the tools and techniques and more about genuinely caring for people and creating a culture where people feel safe to be/become the best versions of themselves. The book is full of wonderful nuggets of gold. It gives organizations a road map on how to take care of their employees. This is especially important to tap into people's discretionary effort."

Ciara Carlin

"To unlock the true potential in every individual in your organization, you need to create an environment of trust and psychological safety. Why Care?, gets to the heart of what it takes to truly understand every individual’s mental fitness so you can then create a team of high trust, respect, psychological safety, and continuous improvement. A must read for every leader or aspiring leader."

Stephen Dargan

Cultural Transformation Executive

"The ‘people side’ of continuous improvement has, for too long, lacked adequate attention, yet it’s crucial. This book makes a compelling argument for a deep focus on the ‘people side’, and combines a wealth of information, ideas and practical resources that can be used by anyone, at any level in an organization, to increase that focus. Recommended reading for anyone interested in helping their organization thrive."
